“Amazing Grace” vs.1,3,6

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; ‘tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Jesus – The Bible in 10 Words

Table Talk with Mike and Angela Podcast

Jesus- The Bible in 10 Words‘ – S01E12 of Table Talk with Mike and Angela

Welcome to the Table Talk with Mike and Angela podcast. We’re pastors Mike Holly and Angela Martin and we want to help you understand more about the Bible, faith, and living a faithful life.  In each episode of Table Talk, we sit down for a conversation about a wide range of topics. We often invite other staff members at Bluff Park UMC to join in.  Listen in and experience God in new ways and take those important next steps that help us all weave together a life of faith and service!

Episode 12: Jesus

During our first season, Mike and Angela team up to look at ten words from the first three chapters of Genesis and how they track through the entire Bible.  Guided by the book “The Bible in 10 Words” by author Deron Spoo, we look at the power of these ten different words and how they are woven throughout Scripture to help us understand what God has done and will continue to do in order to bring our world back into a right relationship with Him. In this episode, Mike and Angela discuss the word “Jesus” and how it shows up throughout Scripture.  We will talk about the ‘name above all names‘, logos, and Muhammad Ali on an airplane!

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness

All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace

Oh, may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne [Refrain]

Sermon – March 1, 2020

Faith: Our Daily Bread, by Rev. Mike Holly

The Word:

Matthew 4:1-11

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written,

‘One does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written,

‘He will command his angels concerning you,’
and ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor; and he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! for it is written,

‘Worship the Lord your God,
and serve only him.’”

Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.

Purified, by Rev. Mike Holly

The Word

Isaiah 6:1-8

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”

SEEK GOD

Prayer for the Week:

In the darkness of night and the brightness of day, you, O Lord, are present to me. As I wrestle with situations which seem to drain me of my energy; and as I struggle to find out who you call me to be, you reach out to me with reassurance of empowerment and courage for the days ahead. Calm my spirit and prepare my heart and life to receive your awesome grace. It is in Jesus’ name that I pray. Amen.

Christmas at Bluff Park 2020

Advent2015SermonIconThe Advent and Christmas season is an important and cherished time in the life of the church. During the Christmas season, we also make time for mission activities like the Festival of the Three Kings, special food pantry distributions, and the distribution of blankets to the homeless that were collected in November. We gather online and in-person on Christmas Eve for a moving candlelight worship service welcoming the Christ child.
