Common Tables exist to draw people closer to God and to one another. In Common Tables, Bluff Park UMC aims to help all people hear how God is calling us all to draw into deeper communion with God, each other, and the world through shared practices, shared stories, and shared lives. Common Tables are open to everyone whether you do not attend worship or if you do attend Traditional Worship or The Gathering at Bluff Park!
So How Does It Work?
Common Tables are small gatherings of 6-10 people that come together around tables in homes in our community. Some Common Tables do choose to meet at the church, but still around a table.
The mission of Common Tables is simple: come together with good friends over good food to help one another listen for the voice of God in our lives. Just as God invites us around the table of Holy Communion to confess our sins, hear the story of salvation, and receive grace, we believe that God also calls us to make each one of our tables places where strangers become friends, grace is shared, and transformation occurs. At a Common Table, members of a table gather together, share a meal, search Scripture together, share life, and pray together. Each table is different, but these four features are always constant.
