A group of BPUMC students left Bluff Park Sunday morning, July 20th, for their Appalachia Service Project trip. They traveled to Green County, Tennessee to serve families in need in rural Appalachia.
After arriving in Tennessee, the students gathered with teams from other congregations on Sunday afternoon for their Appalachia Service Project orientation.
The students were assigned to work teams and quickly became the hands and feet of God to families who needed help. Two teams of BPUMC students have been serving the family in this house by replacing damaged kitchen tiles, removing and replacing a rotting wooden porch, and digging a drainage ditch above the house – what a blessing!
Other BPUMC students worked at another home in the area doing similar projects. They dug a drainage ditch and filled it with gravel to divert rainwater away from this house and control erosion.
This kitchen had a dangerous hole in the floor which was repaired and then covered with a brand new laminate floor which will serve the family for years to come.
The trip wasn’t all work and no play. The student volunteers got to take a break from their labors to enjoy “Lyrics on the Lawn” in historic Greeneville, TN. Live local music, good vendors and even a President Andrew Johnson historical re-enactor.
When the 2014 ASP trip came to a close some very tired workers returned home from a job well done! We are very proud of our servant hearts that our students have and their willingness to reach out and help others in need.
